The Saint Barnabas Apostolate does not live by a Rule like a religious order or institution. Members do not take public or private vows. Rather, we are an apostolic community of laity bound together by what we hold in common.
These are our Commons, what we hold to be the same among all of us, the Commons of Saint Barnabas.
I. Our Common Faith (fides)
We believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
II. Our Common Liturgy (liturgiae)
We bind ourselves to worship in a form ordinary to the holy catholic Church with the faithful of Saint Barnabas Church.
III. Our Common Prayer (orata)
We bind ourselves to daily prayer in communion with the faithful of Saint Barnabas Church.
IV. Our Common Work (opus)
We bind ourselves to daily work for the good of the faithful of Saint Barnabas Church.
V. Our Common Way (ratio)
We bind ourselves to the Way of Light as the foundation of our Commons, our Constitution and our Ordinary which is always under the pastoral guidance of the Rector of Saint Barnabas Church.
